rojo concrete worx started in 2004. Rafael grew up around construction
all his life. His father owned Palacios Construction, a general
construction company that still operates today in San Diego.
Growing up, Rafael worked with his father during weekends, summer
vacations and other vacations from school and began to learn several
trades within the construction industry. Over the years, Rafael's
interest in construction grew. After graduating from high school,
Rafael joined his father's construction company full time and quickly
became proficient in many trades. One day, when discussing about
a project with another contractor, the subject of "concrete countertops"
were mentioned. Rafael has poured plenty of square feet of concrete
but never thought of it to be used as a countertop.
After studying how this wonderful material can be used, he took
the next step and attended a workshop training course with Matthew
Newman at VISION CONCRETE INSTITUTE and learned the BUDDY RHODES
product. At VISION, Rafael learned molding techniques, pre-cast,
cast in place techniques. After becoming proficient with the BUDDY
RHODES system, and fabricating countertops and vanities, he attended
an Advanced Flooring Systems training course at the CONCRETE SOLUTIONS
training facility with Ernie Archuleta and Matthew Newman. Rafael
honed his skills on projects that combined floors and countertops.
In early 2007, Rafael felt the necessity to learn more about concrete
countertops and decided to take another training course, this time
at THE CONCRETE COUNTERTOP INSTITUTE in Raleigh, North Carolina
with Jeff Girard. At CCI, Rafael was educated about mix design,
reinforcement, and other fabrication methods needed to fabricate
high end, engineered concrete countertops.
Rafael's background, as well as his attention to detail is what
drives rojo concrete worx to produce a high quality product and
service.
